That's one of the things I was thinking about when I wrote my proposal. In fact, I was specifically thinking about Mauer.  While I would have no problem drafting a typical, useless $1 catcher with my last auction dollar, secure in the knowlege that Joe Mauer would actually end up in that slot, I somehow thought that Jeff and others drafting farther down the line in the rotation draft wouldn't like it much, and it would be pretty hard for me to argue that it's fair for me to have Mauer locked up in advance.

If we ever draft prior to Opening Day again, I suggest we refer to this as the "Mauer Mandate."
