It did indeed. And my e-mail said he remained a prospect but was likely to move to either first base or a corner outfield slot as a result of defensive deficiencies and the presence of Alex Gordon. I was right on both counts.

Where was the swipe? I was just updating folks, in my never-ending efforts to provide useful information to everyone in the league. Does the prospect of buying Winick a chicken dinner make you cranky?

Mark

P.S. If you don't think Butler is a super prospect, let me trade you a "B" guy for him. I think the man can seriously hit.

Mark:

You missed my point. I never proclaimed Butler a super-prospect. I just wondered how he had slipped out of prospect status so quickly. I believe my exact e-mail said that Butler's status as a prospect seemed awfully short-lived. Never let the facts get in the way of a good swipe.

Here's the latest on Blocker-proclaimed super-prospect (or is it Monster Talent) Billy Butler. As many of you may recall, Blocker seemed to feel that I was premature in proclaiming Alex Gordon KC's third baseman of the future, in light of Butler's presence at that position. I politely disagreed. Without disparaging Butler (which I would never do, of course), I contended that Butler might well be destined for another position. Looks like KC agrees.
Single-A High Desert's Billy Butler went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI yesterday in his return from a bruised hand.
Butler played left field on Monday and that will likely remain his position for the foreseeable future. The decision to draft Alex Gordon had to play some role in the decision to move Butler now, but the 2004 first-round pick had no future at third base anyway.
