I finally picked up a copy of Fantasyland and started reading it this
evening.

On pages 56 and 57 Sam Walker describes a meeting between Ron Shandler and
someone named Jeff Luhnow.

At the time, Luhnow had been recently hired by the Cardinals as its Vice
President of Baseball Development.

As described in the book, Luhnow had approached Sandler to be a member of an
outside board of advisers Luhnow was forming to help the Cardinals make
personnel decisions.

Here's something that's not in the book.

Before Luhnow joined the Cardinals, he was president of a company called
Archetype Solutions. Archetype was formed by a group of apparel industry
guys who wanted to come up with a process to provide low quantity custom fit
clothing online. They hired away an old friend who happened to be working
in Chicago at the time to be their general counsel. That friend is USML
alum Steve Campo (he of the short-lived Dirty Water Dogs). Steve left our
league when he moved to California to join Archetype. When Jeff Luhnow
formed his board of advisers (the one discussed in the book) he also invited
Steve Campo to join.

I've not talked to Steve in a while. I think he still works on the board of
advisers with Jeff Luhnow. Steve told me some interesting stories a while
back when the Cardinals gave Pujols a contract extension.
