[USML Announce] Dellucci

We have always treated the DH slot as a "position". Some years back, we
didn't have a UT slot and had a DH slot instead -- treating it as a
"position." That led to a run on players who qualified at DH. We then
introduced the UT slot.

If, in the preceding season, a player appears at 20 games as a DH and did
not appear in 20 games at any other position, then, for draft purposes, the
player is a DH only, and can only be placed in the UT slot. Once the season
has started, a player can be moved to any position at which he appears at
least once in the season.

Since Ortiz has appeared twice at 1B this season, he can be used there this
year. Unless he gets to 20 games at 1B he'll be back to UT only for draft
purposes next year until he appears elsewhere.

So the logical leap is that David Ortiz will qualify at 1B next year and not
just the UT slot. At the draft this year I believe the info I was given
was that he only can go UT because he is a DH...but its how many games you
appeared at in a defensive mode.

Here is Article VI of our Constitution. Is there something unusual I'm
missing?

Article VI. Position Eligibility

1.	A player may be assigned to any position at which he appeared in 20
or more games in the preceding season. If a player did not appear in 20
games at a single position in the preceding season, he may be assigned to
the position at which he appeared most frequently. Notwithstanding the first
two sentences of this Section 6.1, if the preceding season shall be
shortened, then an appropriate adjustment shall be made to the 20 game
appearance requirement. In addition, once the season is under way (before or
after Draft Day), a player becomes eligible for assignment to any position
at which he has appeared at least once.

2.	Subject to the second sentence of Section
<http://www.usml.net/rules.html#Section 4.2> 4.2, eligibility questions
shall be resolved by League vote prior to the commencement of the Auction.

3.	Except as set forth below, for purposes of Section 6.1
<http://www.usml.net/rules.html#Section 6.1> , only appearances at the major
league level shall count. If a player did not appear at the major league
level in the preceding season, then appearances in other organized baseball
leagues shall be used to determine position eligibility.
