Now if Wieters can be the catcher and closer at the same time -- I'd be
really impressed. . .

Rich:
Thank you for asking this very pertinent and timely question. In fact,
all of the Bomber draft picks signed and will be on my retention roster
(barring offseason trade). You would have heard a lot of breathless comment
about these players if they had been on one of the team that gets
Beckham-level press coverage (Riptorns, Berliners), but alas, since they
reside on the Bombers, there has been nary a peep. So lets review.
The Bombers took three college players in the rotation draft. All three
were then drafted by AL teams. All three then signed before the 8/15
deadline. Here is the stockpile:
1. David Price -- A lefty pitcher and the #1 overall choice in the 2007
amateur draft. He is a high strikeout, future ace.
2. Matt Wieters -- He has the very common combination of being both a
catcher and a closer. The #5 overall pick will likely play catcher in the
bigs.
3. David Brackman -- Another first round power pitcher, this one drafted by
the Yankees.
That is all for now.

Hey -- have the Blocker draft picks been signed yet or will they be
available in
next year's MLB draft?

He pitched similarly well after moving up to Trenton for eight appearances

Today's hot news item....
Clay Buchholz - BOS - S August 15
According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox are likely to call up Clay
Buchholz
to start one of the game's in Friday's doubleheader.
Nothing official has been announced yet because the Red Sox are said to be
trying to clear roster space, perhaps by trading Wily Mo Pena. Buchholz is
among
the elite pitching prospects in baseball and has moved very quickly this
season.
Save your FAAB, Andy. Clay's a Rip.
