At 9am California time, last Friday, June 6th, J.R. Higley was selected in the 9th round by the Washington Nationals in theMajor League Baseball Draft.? He was the 271st player taken out of approximately 1,500.? Pretty Cool!? Don't go buy the Nationals gear just yet because they have to come to an agreement first, which is more unlikely than likely.? J.R. tells Joyce and I they are getting closer.

In the meantime, he will be playing for the Chatam A's?in the Cape Cod Summer College Baseball League.? He leaves on Wednesday.? He is a late addition but gets to play mainly as a result of his draft position.?He can sign with the Nationals at any time until August 15th, after which the?Nationals lose their rights to him and he goes back into the draft in June 2009.? Either way He's "all the way excited."? If he signs a pro contract, MLB will pay for his remaining college education as a caveat to sign before graduating.? And we won't see him again until Sept/Oct.?
