I have no problem with laptops, internet access, or Winick's direct red-phone hotline being available at the draft.

Bring it on.

-Andy

PS: Jeff's list is fine with me.

I really don't understand why internet access would be an issue - what exactly is the breaking news that we expect will be available between the hours of 8 and 2 on a Saturday morning, weeks prior to the end of spring training? And, I, for one, actively encourage everyone at the draft table to peruse the internet during the draft and thereby divert their attention from the far more important strategy associated with budget management, player selection, evaluation of the remaining pool and the strength of other rosters. In fact, I volunteer to bring extra laptops to the draft if people promise to use them to regularly check on ESPN and CBSSportline during the draft (or in Brad's case, surf internet porn). I'm more than willing to subject myself to the "disadvantage" of letting everyone else in the room have access except for me.

But Brad's point is a good one. Real men don't need no stinking laptops...or draft lists....or magazines....or minor league lists....or spreadsheets. I'd be the first one to support a proposal that we mirror the XFL and simply hand out one piece of blank paper, one pencil and the list of 40 man rosters and nothing else. And no more motions to think to boot. That's what we in the XFL refer to as "drafting naked" and as long as thats the only nakedness involved, I'm all for it.

Now, enough about silly minutae. Here are the NRI players I'd like to have added to the draft list:
  Edgardo Alfonso ? Texas
Bartolo Colon ? Boston
Eric Hinske ? Tampa Bay
Hideo Nomo ? Kansas City
Jason Tyner - Cleveland
Dee Brown - Angels
Chad Hermanson ? Angels
Steve Trachsel ? Baltimore
Guillermo Quiroz ? Baltimore
Dan Kolb ? Boston
Mike Sweeney ? Oakland
Brendan Donnelly ? Cleveland
Jorge Julio ? Cleveland
Adam Melhuse - Texas
Chris Shelton ? Texas
Kevin Mench ? Texas
Bobby Kielty ? Boston
Brian Lawrence ? KC
Angel Berroa ? KC
Chris Lubanski ? KC
Aquilino Lopez ? Detroit
Matt Mantei ? Detroit
Timo Perez ? Detroit
Darrell Rasner ? NYY
Morgan Ensberg ? NYY

That is all.

Thanks Mark.

I've got one issue to raise related to draft day
logistics.

I've always been uncomfortable with the notion that some
people would have internet access during a draft while others don't. It
seems to me that we should discourage people from having internet access during
the draft. How do others feel about this? If the consensus is that
it's not a problem, I'll certainly come prepared to tap into the network, on the
other hand, I think that the better approach is not to do
so.

What say the league on this one?

Gang:
Here is the information for draft day
2008.
When: Saturday, March 15, at
8:00 a.m. (sharp)
Where: Sidley Austin LLP, One South Dearborn Street, Chicago (38th floor)
How to get in: Each league owner is listed on the guest list for this Saturday. When you arrive, you will need to present a drivers license or state ID, so please bring one of those. After your ID is verified, you will be issued a badge that will allow you to go through the security lanes to get to the elevators. Take the elevator to the 38th floor. When you get off of the elevator, turn west (away from the lake) and go through the silver door (which will be ajar). The draft room (38W15) is right behind those doors.
Food/beverage: Two simple rules.
First, absolutely no alcohol. Second, bring any food you want to consumer
during the draft. I do not believe there are vending machines that are
easily accessed, so please bring stuff.
Lunch: The draft will certainly go
through lunch. I would recommend bringing something for lunch so that we
can avoid slowing down the draft.
Computer/internet: The draft room has
loads of computer and internet facilities. I believe there is a wired port
available in front of each chair (along with electrical outlets), so feel free
to bring computers (and you can have internet access).
Call-in information: Jim, the number is
312-507-0446.
IMPORTANT POST-DRAFT: After the draft,
please submit a piece of paper that shows (a) your drafted roster, with a star
next to the names of players that were retained pre-draft, and for each player,
their current position and salary; (b) a list of players acquired in the
rotation draft, along with the following information: MLB team or other
affiliation, position, and salary; and (c) a list of any week 1 roster
moves.
How to reach me: If you need to reach me
on or before draft day, either e-mail me at Sidley or call me on my cell at
847-571-4114.
