You picked up Wieters and Price in a very shrewd fashion and then flipped
those beans for seasoned major league talent in a year where you have a
strong shot at winning the league.  You don't do that by following the COPS
formula.  You have also become a student of the mid-season draft.  If it

I thought that Kentrail has struggled.  His stock seems to have fallen.
I've not seen him in recent first round predictions -- but I've not looked
to hard either.

Mark,

A combination of early struggles, a bit of attitude and Scott Boras as his
agent all conspired to move him down.  The Berliner management is
particularly impressed with the attitude.  We expect that he'll fit it
nicely.

Kentrail Davis still on the board through #18.  Baseball America's Jim
Callis predicts he won't go in the first round, but we'll see.

I am very pleased to report that Grant Green was just chosen by the Oakland
Athletics with the #13 pick.  That leaves only Kentrail Davis on the board.

Gentlemen (and Brad Lee),

The 2009 MLB Minor League Draft is under way.  It turns out that there
weren't too many draft eligible players chosen in the reserve round.  In
fact, as far as I can tell, there were only four selected:

Grant Green - Berliners
Dustin Ackley - Red Hots
Kentrail Davis - Red Hots
Stephen Strasburg - Hoosier Daddies

Stephen Strasburg was the overall #1 choice of the Washington Nationals.  As
Mr. Gammons soon recognized, he won't be playing in the AL and he was
therefore released long ago.

Dustin Ackley was taken #2 by the Seattle Mariners and should have a quick
path to he majors if his bat holds up once he switches to wood.
Congratulations Rich.

Davis and Green have not yet been drafted, but I will update you as soon as
they come off the board.
