Cherington has already said that the Red Sox aren’t bidding. The Yankees are an obvious possibility, but they haven’t had the best of luck with Japanese pitchers. Most importantly, Mr. Epstein has a track record with bidding on Japanese players and although Dice-K didn’t work out well, Darvish is the type of young player (27) that he loves to build around.
One of two possibilities here: (i) he signs in the NL and you’re out of luck or (ii) he signs with the Yankees and turns into what nearly all Yankees pitchers turn into – junk.
The good news is that if he signs with the Yankees you’ll definitely be able to pawn him off on Blocker before he completely loses value. As I recall, Mr. B was all over Irabu.

Just don't bother to bid on Darvish. He's under contract.

Mr. Pujols is closely identified with the team that all Chicago sports fan have
grown up hating. I suppose this could lead to him being on Fruiter's team as
well, but John generally keeps his powder dry for prospect pitchers.
On the other hand, on further reflection, Klein's $1 pitcher strategy (better
known as the bad pitcher strategy), will free up plenty of dollars for the
bidding extravaganza.

Quintessential Blocker player. I'll set the over/under at $52 and give
2-1 odds that he ends up on the Bombers. 4-1 odds that he doesn't end up on the
Red Hots. No way that Rich spends what it will take. The long shot here is
Dennis. You never know how these young guys will react.
