Correction: He stole 66 bases the year Jeff bought him, then 70 the
following year.

Hey, I can actually solve this mystery. A little known fact: I have a
folder that has the USML draft list from every year since the league's
inception in 1989. I keep threatening Rich that I am going to scan these
all in and put them on the usml.net website.
Anyway, with the 101st pick in the 1992 draft, Jeff W. did indeed draft
Kenny Lofton for $4. He purchased him one selection after Emily bought
George Brett for $1.
In the 1990 USML draft, Emily used the 202nd pick to draft Cecil Fielder for
$1.
I'd vote for Lofton as the best keeper of all time. He stole 54 bases the
year Jeff bought him, and 83 (!!) the following year. What would a guy like
that go for now?

FYI: I don't remember Crawford going that cheap, but give me an approximate
year and I will look it up.

I guess the real point of all this is that we'll have no idea where Hosmer
ranks for at least a year or two. There are ten or twenty guys who start
out this way for every one that sustains it.

I thought he was $4, but I just sent an e-mail mentioning him among some
others.

Wrong again. The correct answer would be Kenny Lofton back in the day. $2
contract that was extended for 3 years. He was stealing 60-70 bases each and
every year to go along with a .300 average and a handful of home runs.

Naah -- it was Grady Sizemore when I had him at $1 and even after I
extendedhis contract. -----Original Message-----From:
