ITEM:
Mariners' Gold Glove center fielder Franklin Gutierrez will open the
season on the 15-day disabled list, general manager Jack Zduriencik
said Tuesday, as the club closes in on its final 25-man roster heading
into Friday's opener at Oakland
Gutierrez has been plagued by stomach problems from a digestive tract
issue throughout spring, but still has received no answers from a
battery of medical tests, and his return remains uncertain.

LOSER: Klein-9, who already endure lightest hitting outfield in
league, now must turn to reserves Boesch or Duncan or dangle closer
prospect Chris Ray to Bombers in hopes of landing Melky Cabrera. Poor
pitching + mediocre offense = DOWNWARD TREND.

WINNERS: The Daddies, now assured that Saunders gets additional ABs,
and the Brats, still hoping for the Milton Bradley bounce back. Both
teams trend CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC.
