BOSTON -- Daniel Bard wasn't progressing as a starter at the Major League level, so the Red Sox optioned the converted reliever to Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday. Bard's latest start on Sunday against the Blue Jays was by far his worst since joining the Red Sox's rotation this year. Over 1 2/3 innings, he allowed five runs, walked six and hit two batters.
LOSER
Berliners. Any hope of passing Nukes in ERA and fending them off in WHIP categories fades with Bard off Nukes' active roster as BERLINERS MISS MATUSZ.
WINNER
Nukes. Unless they put Ubaldo on active roster, Nukes poised to garner critical pitching points and BITE OFF THE BRATS.
