Periodically, Baseball HQ runs down how the beans are growing. They've just published their review of Nick Franklin. The conclusion? Well, read it for yourself, but it sounds to me like young Mr. Franklin is the quintessential $9 player on a $5 contract. As I've said before - he sounds like a great throw in to close a deal. Then again, that presumes that Rich has something to get your interest in the first place.

Franklin has slipped under the radar some in SEA, but he's been worth mixed league ownership thus far:

Franklin's plate skills improved dramatically from '12 during his nearly 150 ABs in the PCL prior to getting called up (.324 BA, 1.50 Eye). Taking into account natural skills growth and PCL regression, his current .290 BA and 0.48 Eye are a nice, happy medium.
He's also continued to walk at a fairly high rate, and while Spd has fallen off some, he's still a decent bet for another 10-15 SBs given his liberal SBO%.
He's brought some solid pop to the plate without an inflated hr/f%, which is a good sign. However, he hit just 11 HRs in 535 PAs in Triple-A last season, so don't expect his power to continue to keep pace with his Spd.

Franklin has been an everyday starter since being called up and his current production is in line with the power/speed pedigree he displayed throughout the minors. He's got an advanced approach for his age, and is unlikely to hurt you in any category. You could do far worse at your middle infield spot.
