Clearly you don't read my emails, Mr. B.  That was in my earlier report - see the part highlighted in blue.  Yes - we'll have to wait until late April.  But some things are worth waiting for.

Ryan Madson (elbow) is currently limited to long tossing.
Madson felt tightness in his elbow after a bullpen session Thursday, so the Angels have scaled back his throwing program. He's not overly concerned at the moment, but he's nowhere close to pitching in a game. Ernesto Frieri should get most of the early save chances for the Angels.

Fantasy Analysis
Madson, who underwent Tommy John surgery last spring, is not expected to be ready for Opening Day but should be a part of the Angels' bullpen by the end of April. Whenever he is pain free, he is slated to act as the team's closer, barring an impressive performance by Ernesto Frieri in his stead.

    No bugs here - it appears that Mr. Madson is experiencing more elbow pain and hasn't thrown since last week.  2013 might not be much better
than 2012 for him!  In the meantime, Ernesto is working on an offspeed pitch to compliment his untouchable fastball.  So there's that.

Tough news for Mr. B on Hanrahan.  But for $5 less, the Berliners look like they've bought the Angels closer for 2013.  Here's what BBHQ had to say.  Anyone want to take bets on whether Rick will eat his bug:

BHQ take: With Ryan Madson's return date still in question, we've been flogging the likelihood of an LAA match-up closer committee for a while now. Frieri still hasn't won his manager's complete confidence back after a spotty 2H last season, while Downs remains death on LHBs. Sean Burnett should also be in the mix for a few save opps assuming his continuing recovery from early season back issues.  -Jock Thompson
