I think I agree with all of that, except the part about roster expansion.  If he become two players, then he becomes two players--again subject to whatever constraints the website may have.

I agree with you. But I think we also agree that there’s nothing in the rules that would require me to declare him to be either a pitcher or hitter for the entire season. 

This is really a circumstance that the rules didn’t contemplate and I agree that unless the rules are changed they should be interpreted as written.  And that would make Ohtani a player with a novel type of position eligibility. 

However, I do think that if Onroto deals with this is the manner that was proposed just a few weeks ago at the AFL (i.e. two separate players)then my roster will have to be expanded to give me both versions of Ohtani and I’ll only be able to play one of them at a time.

I think that’s for the league to decide. I was just identifying how the web administrators are proposing to deal with this. 

It seems to me that it would present us with an option, though I’m inclined to agree with Mark K. that in the absence of a change in the rules, he would retain his single headed status and it would just be up to me to choose on a week by week basis.

I presume that will require me to elect whether I want to keep the Otani the pitcher (YES), Otani the hitter (MAYBE) or both.

It’s not that simple, Mark.  Our roto service classifies all players as one or the other, and players cannot cross from one side to the other.  It’s already theoretically possible to use a pitcher at Ute, but there is no way our service can move them over to the hitting side.  Maybe they will come up with a fix, but otherwise, it’s just not how our system works.  We are stuck with what we have.
