[USML Announce] Congratulations to the Nukes!

I’ll address the absurd notion that White Merrifield is the single most undervalued keeper for next year in a later post.  Although one could argue that the statement is sufficiently absurd that no response is necessary.

But I’d rather focus my attention on offering my congratulations to our 2017 champion, Mr. Kerber.  Despite my best efforts, I believe that Mark was in first place from pillar to post.  And for those wondering why I hesitated to offer my congratulations, I confess that I was deciding whether to request a re-count.  Despite appearances, it was, in fact, that close.  It would have taken merely 3 more Hoosier Daddy RBIs and a swing of .01 in ERA and we’d have been crowning another champion.  But, it was not to be and it’s easy to understand why.  Mark’s team was fantastic.  Jose Abreu, Robinson Cano, Xander Bogaerts, Mike Moustakas, George Springer on offense and a pitching staff led by soon to be Cy Young winner Corey Kluber is tough to top.  But the real genius was drafting and/or picking up guys like Delino DeShields (22 SB), Chase Headley (12 HR/.273 BA), Alex Cobb (3.66 ERA, 12 W) and Mike Clevinger (3.11 ERA, 12 W).  And then the coup de gras was the trade for Justin Verlander (1.70 ERA, 8 W down the stretch).  A great year by a particularly worthy champion.  Congratulations.

Merrifield's minor league numbers suggest the speed and average may well be real, but the power is suspect.  Still, even if he goes back to being the 6 or 8 HR guy he was in the minors, 30 bags is worth a lot.

Andy:  are you out of your mind?  Whit Merrifield is the most undervalued player going into 2018.  Giolito had a nice month; Merrifield had a nice season.

Mark K. ... kudos on an outstanding season.  You came in with an advantage, had a great draft, and fended off a late challenge.  Well played!

Already looking forward to the 2018 season, and definitely seeking trading partners in the off-season.  There are way more than nine keepers on the K9!

PS:  I told Doug yesterday that if he buys me a Giolito jersey, I'm wearing it to next year's draft.  Young Lucas is easily the most undervalued commodity in the league heading into next season. :)
