[USML Announce] Fwd: Vote by committee as a whole

I vote "no" on what would amount to a retroactive change in practice.  I think most of us have been structuring their bids based on current practice and the way the website orders the bids, or at least I know I have.
Yes it sucks when you relied on the written rule and got surprised/disappointed.  I was that guy the first time we had this conversation, and all  the same things were said.
However, I also think Frank's absolutely right that we should update the rules to reflect the practice.
And, by the way, my response as to the presence of any other unwritten exceptions to the written rules was somewhat joking in tone, but was also my honest answer to the question.  When Frank raised the issue, I went through the rules, and the only things I could find (other than this issue) were (a) the availability of daily rather than weekly updating of standings (also a product of the website) and (b) the absence of an annual awards banquet (yes, it's in the rules).  So I think is the only thing that has any day-to-day or week-to-week relevance.
Mark

Nope. Unless Bill Barr thinks we should, then I change my vote.

All due respect, I'm with John on this one. Deferring to Onroto's processing has been something that's come up before & we've been using the system for many years.

I'm sympathetic to Frank's cause, but does that mean we have to go back and retroactively change all the bidding for prior years since the advent of OnRoto?
I vote no.

 I vote no.
Yimi Garcia will not be the difference maker this year. It’s not going to be that close for reasons that have nothing to do with free agent bidding.
And there’s no disappointment at Berliner HQ regarding the draft.  We got the top fantasy prospect in the 2021 draft at $5. That was the objective. That leaves me with him (Mayer), Kiriloff, Jung, Lacy, Kjerstad, Martin, Kelenic, and Rodriguez to pair with some combination of Lowe, Rosario, Alvarez, Larnach, Schoop, Karinchek, Sale, Loaisiga, and Kaprilian. That’s plenty to ensure that I don’t have to settle for a drive for five.

Dear Commissioner,

I would in fact like to put the disputed bid out for a vote by the committee as whole.

Your logic on the impact of Garcia is limited and flawed:

1) written rules affected my strategy for this bidding round, which means I may have ended up with Gomes or Hand outright. We’ll never know

2) counting stats matter … someone lost a title by **one** strikeout a few years ago and I lost thanks to Rougned Odor on the last day last season

3) Ryan Pressley gets hurt or is ineffective  … then what?

4) we have written rules. The fact that they may not have been updated is immaterial

Too many variables to dismiss this as a minor or inconsequential thing.

Finally, maybe you have “always done it this way.” Can you please cite precedents?

Thanks,
Frank
