Is it just me or is this the wrong time to be in the closer business.   My
own guy, Miceli has been far from lights out - but he only cost $5 and does
have 3 saves.  By my estimation, saves were going for about $1 a piece  at the
draft, so this guy is just a few outings from turning a profit.  It  could have
been much worse - over the last few days, high priced or highly  touted
closers like Guardado (walk off 2 run home run), Street (4 earned runs in  the
9th),
Rivera (blown save - 2 earned runs), have been getting pounded.   Hell,
Foulke's been relegated to mop up work in the 7th and 8th and Orvella just  got
recalled from the minors where he wasn't exactly throwing darts.

The league leaders are Jon Papelbon, Chris Ray and Bobby Jenks!!   Anyone see
that coming.

I know that all the excitement so far has surrounded Brad and his (???)
closers.  He traded a few away (Foulke and Wickman), thinks he may have  landed
one (Cabrera) and now is trying to tout another (Putz).  Rick  is now trying to
move a few himself.

Best of luck, guys.  But I recommend spending your hard earned chits,  magic
beans, prospects or whatever the hell else you call them on some honest to
goodness offense that you can trust.  Need some speed, batting  average in a
solid middle infielder - how about Luis Castillo.   Need some power?  How about
Hideki Matsui.  Like a little speed  with your power?  How about Alex Rodriguez
or Reggie Sanders?

Heck, even if you're insistent on picking up a pitcher, go with the safer
commodity, a 1/2 starter on a good baseball team, say Joe Blanton or Kevin
Millwood.

Like I've said before - the stove is hot.
