Thank God I rebuffed the repeated pleas by Cohen to land this flamethrower. I
astutely went after Rodrigo Lopez instead...

But, Mark, the Baseball America Prospect handbook says good things about
him. And that's what counts, after all ...

Burgos' minor league career numbers (5 years, all but one in rookie and A
ball): 289 IP, 4.67 ERA, 1.46 WHiP, 13 W, 29 L, 1 SV. If Buddy Bell trusts
him with a ninth-inning lead again, he deserves to manage in KC.

Mark, I would never diss you or your FAAB purchases, and I expect you'll
make plenty more this week on the rest of the KC bullpen. As for me, I'm
heartened by Buddy Bell's words of support for Burgos and expect that he
will have opportunities to redeem himself later this season. I can be
patient with the lad, as will the Royals. My road to a USML championship
is longer than yours and I can speak on Jeffery's behalf when I say that the
experts pick you to win again this year (especially when we can finalize
that Dessens-Thome deal,,,,).

Respectfully,

Brad The Beaten

I have no doubt that MacDougal will be given a shot to close, too, a la
Little League. However, the schedule for his return is still out in the 4
to 6 week range (just like it's been for the past two months), not two
weeks. Moreover, based on career numbers, my guess is that Dessens is
probably a better pitcher overall than MacDougal and, unlike MacDougal, he's
signed through next year. Since I don't really need a full-time closer as
much as a few added saves, I'm pretty happy with Dessens. I was mostly just
taking a poke at Brad for dissing my $5 FAAB purchase, who has actually done
pretty well to date.

Either way, Burgos's next chance to close will probably not be this year.
And maybe not next year either.

P.S. If KC played in AAA, would they have a winning record? I'm not sure.

Actually, I have heard that in KC, it works just like youth baseball.
Everybody
gets a turn at being closer, at least until Mike McDougal, the real closer,
gets
back. Hopefully Dessens' parents have a good chair near the field for the
next
two weeks.

I think the one in the middle is the one who is now the KC closer--having
taken
that job from some guy named Asterisk Bogus, or something like that.
