[USML Announce] Congrats to the K-Nine ....

No $15. Just $2. Also, it looks like Hairston is going to Texas, so D'Angelo Jiminez will be waived or traded. No big deal, except that Andy now won't be tempted to let Nevin kill his BA.

I'm with you on Sauerbeck, though. Given that Wedge and Shapiro are reasonably young (at least by this league's standards) and are baseball guys, I'm guessing that the explanation they were comfortable with was mostly focused on the woman's anatomical features. ("OK, Scott, that makes perfect sense to me.")

........ for losing Phil "Declining Slugger" Nevin and gaining $15 as ammunition
for the upcoming Jerry Hairston (he of the FOUR RBIs and 3 SBs) bidding battle.
Now for what's really on my mind - Scott Sauerbeck belongs in your guys'
line of work. The man is discovered by police hiding in bushes at 3:45 a.m.
with a drunken 28 year-old woman who is not his wife, gets booked on a couple
charges, yet faces no disciplinary action because manager E. Wedge and GM M.
Shapiro are "comfortable with his explanation". SAY WHAT? To paraphrase the
great Slim Pickens, maybe he uses his tongue prettier than a $50 whore!
Gotta get back to figuring out how Andy was able to relay Buehrle's tipped
pitches to the Tribe last night.

...and let me also add that Mark Killer B's initial reply to the various league wags' responses to The Trade of the Century reveals a somewhat sweet lost innocence so rarely seen in these cynical days of rotiserrie baseball. If Mark only traded more frequently; he then would be hardened to the cutting commentary wielded by butchers like Andy Klein and the surgical strikes delivered with cunning precision by wordsmiths like Jeffrey Winick....speaking of Jeffrey--and how can one not speak his name in any serious discussion of this Game?-- I'd like to think that both us view the Sport of Roto Ball as a sort of performance art. We play the game to make deals that arouse interest, debate and passion--we thrive on that, and that alone. Damn the standings and the money and occasional Damon they sometimes bring. It's the audience we play for, themt and them alone. So, Mark Blocker, Jeffrey and I beseech you: when the curtains part, take your bow and let the tomatoes fly from the likes of Andy Klein!! Stand tall amidst the shouts and catcalls!! You, good sir, have traded. And that's what Life is all about.

Wow. Not the reaction I expected at all. At this point, either the criticism must be unfair, suggesting that maybe I am in the wrong place, or I just no longer know how to play the game in our league, in which case I am probably in the wrong place as well. Either way, I seem to be in the wrong place, and it all seems like a lot less fun than it was in the past.

Take it as a compliment. What are any of the contenders going to say--"Oh, goodie, Shabes is going to kick my butt now"? Or the non-contenders--"I'm so glad that Blocker's retention roster has actual major league players, unlike the magic beans I accumulated"? Think of yourself as the new A. J. Pierzynski of the USML.

You'll know you've really done it right when you hear anguished howls of outrage and calls for legislation to prevent similar shenanigans in the future. You're not quite there yet--but I'm willing to help you get there.

Mark

P.S. Now that we've all commented on the trade, how about last week's transactions?
