[USML Announce] All's Well in Winick Land

I'm not at all mad- just making light of the trade, etc. I've been largely absent, felt compelled to rip into that one deal b/c I know it gets the goat of Brad Lee-- the incidental comments from Jeffrey were unexpected. I wanted more of Brad's emails-- and I got them in droves....that's one of MY favorite parts of the league.

I thought I was being light-hearted.

I guess any message in which the terms "Winick" and "bastard" are included in the same sentence is bound to be taken seriously. Doug, I wasn't asking for an apology, I was piling on!

Doug, I honestly mean no offense to you. I'm just trying to stay awake in a boring deposition. I think I robbed Brad Lee blind. Of course, he's pretty sure he did the same to me. That's why we're able to make so many trades. We're both clueless.

And I'm not apologizing to Mark Blocker. You can't make me. ;-)

The big news is that Andy's dumping because its a Winick year. I don't know about you, but I'm getting in line to see what I can get.

Naah. Nobody owes me an apology. Except for all of you who wouldn't do a deal with me last year because you were convinced you could do better elsewhere. You, you, you, it's always about you. I want some quality me time.

Keep it light-hearted guys. Please. I frequently fail to do so and almost always regret it.

I would say the criticism of any deal is what makes this league what it is- questions and criticisms are part of this league and will always be, especially when trades involving prospects for proven players are consummated. Hey, I love making these deals as well- I think I came out well trading Verlander last year despite not winning the league, but I can handle being knocked for it.

If that makes you feel as though I am truly knocking your reputation, then accept my apologies. In the meantime, I am sure you have some to send to Mr. Blocker, Mr. Robbins and others in the league who have been lambasted for making trades that did not meet your standards.

Unless I'm missing something, the only reputations being called into question are Brad Lee's and mine. And I wouldn't say "called into question". Its really just confirmation of the fact that I'm a lousy bastard and the fact that Brad Lee is an evil genius. Since we're both comfortable with our well-earned reputations, this strikes me as much ado about nothing.

I must admit, though, to taking pleasure out of the fact that Andy is unwilling to compete in a Winick year. I guess we all know who Andy really thinks is The Man. :-)

Make one comment about a cheap, cheap closer (they are still valuable, are they not?) and years of building up your reputation vanishes just like that....? Now I know how Newt feels.

 Brad Lee,

I just wanted to confirm our conspiratorial agreement to exchange these same players at a later time when it will be most advantageous for me.

By the way, you don't think Doug is on to us, do you?

Good to know that Doug has landed firmly in the COPS camp ...

? Good to hear from you!? Jeffrey already had my undying, devoted friendship, a friendship that dates back many years ago, sorta like that tearjerker My Dog Skip. Just call me a big, cuddly lapdog.? Well, call Buddha that... Anyway, I am concerned about the well-being of all Jeff's players, not just the 12 that used to be Riptorns.?And my concern extends to all players on all teams, from Cliff Lee (that's a bummer, Mark) to Kevin Millar (how will you ever cope with this dude, Doug, I? mean, really?).
?? Let me also note that I'm beginning to sense from emails composed by Andy and now you that the term "magic bean" is intended to be somewhat pejorative. I find that rather hurtful, but?note that beans --lowly members of the legume family-- really are seeds. And from those seeds, some things grow and, alas, some things perish.?That's part of the life cycle, as Buddha has taught us.?For every Swisher, there's a Cantu and for every Cabrera, there's a Butler (right, Rich? you with me on this?)
??Years, if not months from now, as Jeff continues to update us on the progress of ?JJ's soft-toss program, we'll also read of the exploits of Brandon Wood and Evan Longoria, and perhaps you will?track their major league statistics with the same attention?you have devoted to?JJ's.?But that is a decision you must make, perhaps before ther are tradedback to Winick.
? In any event, I'm glad about JJ's elbow, as I am about Joe Crede's back, Craig Monroe's legs and Frank Thomas' ankles.? Jeffrey has so much to be grateful for and for that all of us should be happy.

For all those, like Brad Lee, that have been worried about JJ, this is just in from the Tacoma (Washington) News Tribune:
 ?

 Putz says he's OK
Putz, meanwhile, played catch again Monday - throwing for the second day in a row after being sidelined five days by a tender right elbow.
"We looked at my mechanics, and they were slightly off when I threw my second bullpen (of the spring)," Putz said. "The elbow tightened up. If it were June or July, I'd never have said anything. I'd just have kept pitching.
"Here, why push it? I put a little heat on the elbow today, then went out and threw hard and the ball jumped. It was inflammation, period. No damage, no injury."
 ?
 That is all.
