Baseball: Orioles sign six, including Yan

Baltimore, MD, Feb 1, 2008 (The Sports Network via COMTEX) -- The Baltimore
Orioles signed six players Friday, including right-handed pitcher Esteban Yan,
who spent last season pitching in Japan's Central League.

Yan, 32, went 6-5 with a 4.66 ERA in 21 games for the Hanshin Tigers of the
Japanese Central League in 2007. He owns a 33-39 career record and a 5.14 ERA in
11 big league seasons with seven clubs. This will be his second stint with the
Orioles, as he debuted with the club in 1996. Yan last pitched in the majors
with Cincinnati in 2006.

The Orioles signed Yan to a minor-league contract, and invited him to Spring
Training with the big club. Baltimore also signed catcher Chris Heintz to a
minor-league deal on Friday. Heintz, 33, batted .250 in 24 games with Minnesota
last season.

Baltimore also announced that four players on the 40-man roster have agreed to
terms on one-year contracts for the 2008 season -- infielders Brandon Fahey and
Luis Hernandez, right-handed pitcher Hayden Penn, and outfielder Chris Roberson.
