With the 2011 season behind us, it is time to start planning for 2012. We have two main items on the agenda for now: (1) expansion, and (2) draft day. Some thoughts on each.

1. Expansion: Last year we unexpectedly went from 11 teams back down to 10. When that happened, there was some discussion about trying to get back to 11 teams, and later during the year, I think Rich had suggested he may have identified a potential new owner. What do people think about expanding to 11 teams ? Rich, is the person you had mentioned still interested? If so, how do you suggest we proceed?

2. Draft Day: It seems that nowadays we struggle to find an available date for the draft. Last year we tried to solve that problem by trying to get early commitments to a specific date, but my recollection is that we ended up having to select a different date anyway due to later-arising conflicts. Nonetheless, I still think it makes sense to at least look at people’s calendars now and see what things look like. Opening day is March 28 (the Japan games). Below are weekend draft dates around that time. Please respond to this email by letting us know which of these days you are currently available, understanding that schedules can change as the dates get closer.

  Potential draft dates:

March 10-11 (Klein’s birthday weekend !)
March 17-18
March 24-25
March 31-April 1

For purposes of planning, Passover and Easter occur on the weekend of April 6-8, so that weekend is probably out. We could also look at the following weekend, but it’s been ages since we drafted after opening day.

Also, if there are other items people want to raise now, please feel free to raise in them in your response email, but please at least have your email included your availability on the above dates.
