[USML Announce] Where There's A Will...

Brother Brad Lee,

I apologize for having made your blood boil. I didn't mean to suggest that those two fine prospects WON'T be ready by next year only that they're NOT presently ready, despite their running contracts. I think they were fine trades and I do not question for judgment. The intended focus of my comment was on the disparity between the acrimony we stir up when you and I do a deal versus the silent reaction to deals you complete with other members of the league.

As Arsenio used to say: "the things that make you go Hmmm".

Brother Jeffrey:
I must take issue with your comments that I have highlighted in blood red below.
To wit: as any of you following the Youkilis controversy must know, young Will Middlebrooks is tearing it up in Triple-A and is quite ready to assume the position at Hot Corner next year because there is no way the Bosox will exercise that expensive option; perhaps Youk will negotiate different terms, but my money ($1, to be exact) is on Middlebrooks. KR will confirm that I commented on his acquisition at the auction as I had targeted him early for my prospecting goals.
Bundy by all accounts will soar through the minors on the wings of his magical talent and clearly has no one (certainly not Matusz) blocking his ascent no later than next year.
Both players are estimable talents and I shall readily defend them and my honor, in no particular order I might add.

Dennis,

I presume the "history" that our commissioner is referring to is the fact that the two winningest franchises in the league were involved in this trade. Anything else would be unseemly, inappropriate and, most importantly, dead wrong.

Don't let Mr. Blocker's "Genericized" summary dissuade you from your initial reaction. Montero is very valuable and you may very well be vindicated if Montero does all that is expected of him. Also you should put the commentary in perspective. Note that you didn't hear a peep from Mark or John or Andy when two long term prospects (Bundy and Middlebrooks), both of whom will be Y2 players next year and are presently nowhere near ready to play major league baseball, were traded for Adam Jones and Jeff Niemann.

Jeff
