[USML Announce] Notice of Hot Wax Seal

Not grumpy--just didn't think it was a real big deal. The guys you got are useful, and Kinsler in particular beats the crap out of an empty or unproductive slot, as long as you don't run up against the cap. As Fruiter noted, I probably just blew past Brad's sarcasm. I'll blame it on being up late watching the Blackhawks.

Kerber, why so grumpy?

Dennis decided to take a flyer on Appel.

He got some salary lift to play with too.

You might not have noticed, but I've been running with three starting pitchers and the really good starters are either destined to be kept by their current owners either because they represent healthy undervalue or because they are productive members of contending rosters. A few wins and some strikeouts will go a long way to making the Red-Hots red hotter. Adding Kinsler to a roster that has included Keppinger and/or Izturis for long stretches seems like a good thing too.

Getting rid of three players who aren't going to do anything for me this year and picking up Kinsler and Porcello seems like a good thing for me. If I have cap problems down the run I can always sit someone to make things work.

What do you think I was supposed to get for Appel at this point? Who was going to offer more?

Bottom line, my team is stronger for doing the deal and I gave up nothing that would help me in this year's race.

If anyone out there says they would have offered more for what I gave up, let me know. I still have Nick Franklin and Mike Zunino to offer.

Off to Lincoln Nebraska to see Joseph's team compete in this year's Formual SAE competition and I may take a spur of the moment trip to Boston to attend game six of the Stanley Cup Finals.

See ya. . . .

Take off your Sox goggles, Brad. Keppinger's a 33-year-old career .280 hitter with neither speed nor power. He's been a full-time player in two seasons out of a 10-year career. Oh, and he's teetering toward complete uselessness this year. You're right about Floyd and Appel, though. In the end, I think Appel's probably the only potential keeper in the pile, because at least he can be stashed on the reserve roster until he's up. On the other hand, Rich didn't get much out of the deal either. If he rosters both Kinsler and Porcello, he'll have $44 of cap space tied up in a B infielder and a dicey starter.

Maybe I should put Rios on the block, just to see what an actual impact player is worth.

Appel is $10 kid pitcher...Floyd is $11 and who knows where or if he'll pitch next year...but Keppinger at $12, I like. This kid looks like a keeper....

Completing their quest to assemble the starting Texas Rangers infield by adding member of the tribe (and Susannah Collins pick) Ian Kinsler, the Red-Hots are pleased to announce that they have traded Mark Appel, Gavin Floyd and Jeff Keppinger to the Adams Family Values (aka the Skippies) for Ian Kinsler, Rick Porcello and Shawn Kelley.
