I think we should treat this the same as any other case of multiple position eligibility, including on draft day. If I can move a guy from OF to 2B during the draft, why not P to DH?

That seems fine to me with one clarification. I think that he needs to be declared one way or the other for draft day purposes. In other words, I don't think you should be able to start with Ohtani in a pitcher's roster slot and then flip him over to the offense side once if you end up with nine pitchers and want to start bidding for another (or visa versa if you fill all your offense slots).

Once the season starts, though, I think it's fair that can place him at P or UT depending on the week.

We're now close enough to the draft that we need to resolve how Mr. Ohtani is going to be treated.

I believe that our rules ought to treat him in the same manner as ESPN and CBS Sportsline. In those leagues, he is regarded as one player who qualifies as either a pitcher or a UT hitter. He can be played in one or the other slots, but not in both.

There are limitless alternatives (for example, in the XFL, my experts league, he is treated as one player that qualifies as either a pitcher or a UT hitter, but can be played as both simultaneously). But it appears that the industry consensus is the approach taken by CBS and ESPN.

I'd like to propose this as an option. If anyone would like to propose an alternative, please do so and then we can have a league vote. Thanks.

Jeff
