[USML Announce] Calamari Retention Roster

 After a quick look at the Constitution, it seems a tiny bit more nuanced.
-- Jim cannot protect McKay as a bean because he once activated him-- he could be picked as a Y0 by any league team this year, but ...-- that owner could not protect him as a bean for 2021 because Jim had once activated him
Doubtful that would happen, but could if McKay gets hurt or otherwise doesn't lose rookie status this year.
Regarding Kerber's questions: Baseball Reference says McKay still has 2020 rookie status, and they use the same criteria we do, right?

I think all of you are essentially right.  Jim is saying that, because he activated McKay, he cannot be a Y0 and kept by Jim as a bean on his freeze list, and Andy is agreeing.  I think Mark is pointing out that, if he currently has rookie status, any team could acquire him the rotation draft as a Y0, and that is unaffected by the fact that Jim once owned and activated him. See Constitution, Article XVI, Para. 2, near the middle of the paragraph, sentence beginning with "Nothwithstanding . . . ."  He's OK on innings (he pitched 49).  Not sure about days on the roster, but he had 11 starts and 2 relief appearances, so he probably (but not necessarily) went over 50 days on the active roster.  So he might still be rookie-eligible if the Rays had him up for a couple of one-day stints to make single starts, or something like that.
